Moen Flo Review — 4 Years With a Smart Water Shutoff

October 7, 2026 · Watch the video review

This device watches every drop of water in my house, tests for leaks every single day, and can shut my water off by itself if something goes wrong. It's the Moen Flo smart water monitor and shutoff. We had it installed when we built our house in May of 2022 — so this is a four-year, long-term review, based on the Flo installed on my own main water line. Here's the honest take.

What the Flo Does

The Flo is installed right on your main water line by a plumber. From there it monitors your water flow and pressure around the clock, and its FloSense technology learns how your house uses water. Every day it runs a MicroLeak test that can catch a leak as small as a drop a minute — the kind of leak you'd never find until it rotted something. If something goes wrong, it sends alerts and can shut your water off automatically.

Price: $1,100 Installed

We paid $1,100 total for the product and professional installation during our build. It's not cheap. Here's what those four years have looked like.

Four Years In: No Leaks — But Plenty of Warnings

We've been lucky: no actual leak so far. But the Flo has still earned its keep. It's great for monitoring your water usage — you can see exactly what your house is using. And it warns us about low pressure. This past week, our whole town lost water pressure after a major water main break — and the Flo warned me all week long. I knew what my water was doing before the city's updates even posted.

FloProtect: Optional Extra Insurance

You can also add Moen's FloProtect plan. I pay for the subscription because I like the extra insurance — per Moen, it adds up to $5,000 of deductible coverage and extends the warranty. But you don't have to. The Flo does its core job without it.

The One Real Downside

Now the one real downside, and you should know this going in. If a lot of water is moving at once — a long shower while the clothes washer and the dishwasher are all running — the leak detection can think something's wrong. It will try to shut your water off unless you respond to the alert within five minutes. That's a problem if you're the only one getting the alerts. It doesn't happen often. But when it does, it's annoying.

✅ Pros

  • Daily micro-leak tests — catch a leak as small as a drop a minute.
  • Real warnings — it warned me all week during our town's water outage (low pressure).
  • Great usage monitoring — see exactly what your house is using.
  • Automatic shutoff protection — it can shut your water off by itself if something goes wrong.
  • Four years of reliable service — installed May 2022 and still on duty every day.

❌ Cons

  • False-alarm shutoffs — heavy simultaneous use can trip leak detection unless you respond within 5 minutes; a problem if you're the only one getting alerts.
  • Premium price — $1,100 total for the product and professional install.
10/10

The Verdict. Ten out of ten — our first perfect score. Four years of daily leak tests, real warnings when our town's water pressure collapsed, and total peace of mind about the most damaging thing that can happen to a house. The false-alarm shutoffs are rare and worth the trade. Would I put one in again? Absolutely.

That's the Moen Flo — the smartest insurance policy in my house.

Moen Flo FAQ

What does the Moen Flo do?

The Flo installs on your main water line and monitors your water flow and pressure around the clock. Its FloSense technology learns how your house uses water, and every day it runs a MicroLeak test that can catch a leak as small as a drop a minute. If something goes wrong, it sends alerts — through the app, and by text, email or call — and it can shut your water off automatically.

How much does the Moen Flo cost installed?

We paid $1,100 total for the product and professional installation. A plumber installed ours on the main water line during our house build in May 2022. It's not cheap — but neither is water damage.

Has the Moen Flo caught a real leak?

Not yet — in four years we've had no actual leak. But it has still earned its keep: the usage monitoring is great, and it warns us about low pressure. During the October 2026 Carlisle water outage, after a major water main break, the Flo warned me all week long — I knew what my water was doing before the city's updates even posted.

What is FloProtect, and do you need it?

FloProtect is Moen's optional subscription plan. Per Moen, it adds up to $5,000 of deductible coverage and extends the warranty. I pay for it because I like the extra insurance — but you don't have to. The Flo does its core job — monitoring, daily leak tests, alerts and automatic shutoff — without it.

What is the downside of the Moen Flo?

One real downside: if a lot of water is moving at once — a long shower while the clothes washer and the dishwasher are all running — the leak detection can think something's wrong and try to shut your water off unless you respond to the alert within five minutes. That's a problem if you're the only one getting the alerts. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's annoying.

Would you install the Moen Flo again?

Absolutely. Ten out of ten — the first perfect score on this channel. Four years of daily leak tests, real warnings when our town's water pressure collapsed, and total peace of mind about the most damaging thing that can happen to a house. The rare false-alarm shutoffs are worth the trade.

Note: This review is based on my own Flo, installed on my main water line during our May 2022 house build and in daily service for about four years. The device photos in the video are my own installed Flo; the app screens are Moen's official app imagery, and the narration is an AI voice.
