Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Prism Review — I Upgraded From the Originals

October 6, 2026 · Watch the video review

I already owned Govee's original permanent outdoor lights — and I replaced them. This is the Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Prism, the 200-foot set, and it's been lighting up my house every single night for two months. This review is based on my own set, installed on my own house. Was the upgrade worth it? Here's the honest review.

What Makes the Prism Different

The Prism is Govee's top permanent light. Each light puts out three color zones at once, so instead of one flat color per bulb, you get a layered, gradient look washing down the wall. It's RGBWWIC with tunable white from warm to daylight (2700–6500K), over a hundred built-in scenes, and a share space in the app where other owners post their own creations.

Brighter Than the Originals

Now the comparison that matters. Versus my originals, the Prisms are much brighter, and the triple-color effect is awesome — it's the first thing people notice. If you're on the originals and wondering, the difference is real.

Price: Buy It on Sale

Mine is the 200-foot set with 72 lights. It lists for $859.99, and I paid $600 on sale — this is a buy-it-on-sale product. There's a 150-foot version too.

The Install: Four Hours, One Ladder

I did it myself in about four hours for the full 200 feet. The hardest part is going up and down the ladder. The built-in clips are great. I didn't need to cut or splice anything, but you can, and the instructions look very easy.

One catch: they don't include screws. The double-sided tape will probably hold for most people, but with Iowa weather, I screwed mine in — with screws I supplied myself.

Daily Life & Reliability

They're on every day. I control them mainly through the Govee app — they also work with Matter, Alexa, and Google — and I run automations, including setting them to my teams' colors on game days: Hawkeyes, Cowboys, and Cubs.

Two months in, they have been rock solid. Not one issue. They're IP68 rated and built for twenty-two below zero, but full honesty — mine haven't been through an Iowa winter yet. That's next.

✅ Pros

  • Much brighter than the originals — a real, noticeable step up.
  • Awesome triple-color effect — three color zones per light, a layered look one flat color can't match.
  • Easy self-install — great built-in clips, about four hours for 200 feet.
  • Rock solid for two months — on every day, zero issues.
  • 100+ scenes and a share space — plus Matter, Alexa, and Google support.

❌ Cons

  • Screws not included — I supplied my own.
  • The cord is visible unless you add a third-party track or you're pretty handy.
  • Premium price — buy it on sale.
9/10

The Verdict. Nine out of ten. It earns it for the brightness, the awesome triple-color effect, an easy install, and two rock-solid months. It loses a point because the screws aren't included — and because you'll see the cord unless you add a third-party track or you're pretty handy.

That's the Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Prism — totally worth the upgrade.
